Carl Larssons paintings portray delightfully the everyday life on the farm which he shared with his wife, Karin, and with all the children and also with the workers on the farm. They show the hard winter months with the cattle unable to go out to pasture until the snow receded, cutting ice blocks from the frozen lake to store food in summer, ploughing, sowing, harvesting and the many jobs in the farmyard and, finally, a well-earned feast for all at Christmastide. The paintings are accompanied by a new version of the classic Swedish text specially written for children by Olive Jones.
Carl Larsson, the internationally famous Swedish painter, was born in Stockholms Old Town. His love for the land is reflected in this collection of beautifully detailed paintings which give a remarkable insight into life in rural Sweden at the turn of the century.
